I have been meaning to write this blog for days now, but I keep forgetting. So this week I feel I should write about memory loss.
I have suffered from this for many years. The thing is I can remember trivial moments when I was four years old, more than fifty years ago. For example, playing with a stick in my garden on a certain sunny morning. But ask what I was doing when John Lennon was shot, I have no idea, and I admired his music. I do remember buying my first LP, ‘Beatles For Sale’ on a day that was bright, crisp and cold. (An LP for those that are puzzled, is like a big black CD).
I sussed out long ago where my car keys would always be found. I tuck them away every time, in a little box in the kitchen. Reading glasses are harder to nail down. I always try and leave them in a certain place, but I read books, newspapers, labels etc in several places throughout the house. So those pesky glasses end up lost for hours. What I need is some kind of electronic locator attached to them. While I am at it, I would get two more for my teenage children!
Memory loss happens to everyone, forgetting a routine, or repeating yourself in the same conversation, could underline a more serious problem. Depression, alcoholism and drug abuse could be factors in memory loss. To help combat it , cut out the stuff that is bad for you. Go for walks, this also helps in reducing stress and depression. Cut down on junk food and eat more fruit and vegetables, as these contain antioxidants which help eliminate free radicals that damage brain cells.
One of the reasons for common memory loss is ‘Not Paying Attention’. My Primary School teacher was always on at me about it, now what was her name?
Before I forget here is a link for more information.
